A Twitter Hustle Guy was golfing on a Tuesday afternoon with his SBA banker and broker. They were on a nice golf course along Lake Michigan and got paired up with a 35-year-old golfer who looked at ease and content. The Twitter Hustle Guy asked him, “what do you do for a living?”
The golfer replied, “I do a little work online.” The Twitter Hustle Guy then asked how he could golf on a Tuesday afternoon. The golfer said he made enough working part-time to support his family’s immediate needs. The Twitter Hustle Guy then asked, “but what do you do with the rest of your time?”
The golfer said, “I read, walk, exercise, meditate, golf, hang out with my family, cook nice meals, travel a little, and sip craft beers with my friends. I have a full and busy life.” The Twitter Hustle Guy scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should hire a team of offshore talent at 1/10th the cost of onshore. Then once you have delegated all of your duties and leveraged your offshore resources, you should lever up and do bolt-on acquisitions of similar businesses, growing top-line revenue and EBITDA.”
The golfer asked, “but, how long will this all take?”
To which the Twitter Hustle Guy replied, “10 – 15 years.”
“But what then?” Asked the golfer.
The Twitter Hustle Guy laughed and said, “That’s the best part. When the time is right, once you scoop up enough of these mom-and-pop shops at low multiples and integrate them onto your platform, you turn around and sell it to private equity at 10x EBITDA and make millions!”
“Millions – then what?”
The Twitter Hustle Guy said, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal town on Lake Michigan where you would read, walk, exercise, meditate, golf, hang out with my family, cook nice meals, travel a little, and sip craft beers with my friends.”
